Artists of the Week:
Vincent Van Gogh:
Vincent Van Gogh was a french born artist who lived a very tragic life. He only sold one painting during his entire lifetime and tried very many different ways. Van Gogh was supported by his brother Theo, who cared very much him, but Vincent’s troubles with his health ultimately cost him his life. It was not long though after his death his paintings, in the style known as impressionism, became very famous and ended up causing record selling sales in the last 20 years. Most recently Van Gogh and his art work were featured in the British SciFi show Doctor WHO where the characters were integrated into his art work and life.
Frida Kahlo:
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican born artist who lived a strong and courageous life after surviving polio as a child and a nearly fatal bus accident at the age of 18. Her art career began as she was recuperating from her bus accident because of her inability to move from her bed due to a giant cast that covered her entire torso. Not long after having the cast removed and her freedom regained Kahlo approached the famous Mexican artist Diego Rivera, who would later become her husband, about her art. It from there on forward after many more surgeries from her accident, traveling to the United States and Europe, Kahlo’s fame took off to become one of Mexico’s most famous female artists.
