GLE: The student will study and look at images of interior and furniture designs to understand scale and proportion of furniture and interior design through pencil drawings of a futuristic piece of furniture and room design of their dream space.

What is furniture design?
Furniture is the mass noun for the movable objects ('mobile' in Latin languages) intended to support various human activities such as seating and sleeping in beds, to hold objects at a convenient height for work using horizontal surfaces above the ground, or to store things. Storage furniture such as a nightstand often makes use of doors, drawers, shelves and locks to contain, organize or secure smaller objects such as clothes, tools, books, and household goods.What is interior design?

Furniture Design
The Student will sketch a design for futuristic piece of furniture that uses scale and proportion in pencil on white 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Furniture Designers Charles and Ray Eames will be used as inspiration.
Who are Charles and Ray Eames?
Charles and Ray Eames were a husband and wife duo who made their mark in the 1950s. They began their careers staging television shows and magazines but later moved into architecture and furniture designs. They are best known for their chairs which feature organic shapes and lines.
The Assignment: Sketch your design on 8.5 x 11 inches for your futuristic furniture design. Use Charles and Ray Eames as your inspiration with their organic shapes and lines. Remember to consider where your furniture will go and how it will be used.
