GLE: The student will learn about and create art work based upon but not limited to the following creative jobs: Animators, Illustrators, Cake Decorators, Costume Designers, Tattoo Artists, Art Teachers, and Hair Artists through readings, videos, and images.

DAY ONE: 11-29-10 - Animators and Illustrators
The student will learn about animators and illustrators such as Takashi Murakami, and Nara through videos and images by creating a creature based upon Murakami and Nara's art work.
What is an animator?
An animator is an artist who creates multiple images that give an illusion of movement called animation when displayed in rapid sequence; the images are called frames and key frames. Animators can work in a variety of fields including film, television, video games, and the internet. Usually, an animation piece requires the collaboration of several animators. The methods of creating the images or frames for an animation piece depends on the animators' artistic styles and their field.
What is an illustrator?
An Illustrator is a graphic artist who specializes in enhancing writing by providing a visual representation that corresponds to the content of the associated text. The illustration may be intended to clarify complicated concepts or objects that are difficult to describe textually.Illustrations have been used in advertisements, greeting cards, posters, books, magazines and newspapers. A cartoon illustration can add humor to humorous essays.
Who is Takashi Murakami?
Takashi Murakami is a Japanese Artist who is primarily known for his very anime, also known as Japanese Animation, style art. He has illustrated and animated many pieces of art for people such as the clothier Louis Vuitton and the rapper Kanye West that use very imaginative creatures.

The Assignment:
Illustrate your own creature in the style of Murakami or Nara in marker on 11 x 8 paper.
