7th Grade - Cubes! Why did it have to be cubes? 1-4-11

Pablo Picasso - Still Life with Cherries 

Warm Up: 
How do we break down an image when we first begin to sketch it? 



Vocab:

Pencil: A dry medium made out of graphite. Often used in other subjects for a writing tool. 

Medium: A tool that can be either dry or wet used in the creation of art.
 
Cubism: A Style of Art that breaks the image down into basic shapes that are often squares.

Pablo Picasso: Passed away in 1971.


The Assignment: 

GLE: 
The student will work from a still life of junk forms, in pencil, of cubic forms as well as discuss the artist Picasso with his art work the Still Life with Cherries to help in their understanding of forms.

The Artist: 
Pablo Picasso


Pablo Picasso was born and raised in Spain but later moved to France. He is one of the founding fathers of the art style known as Cubism. He had a long and fruitful art career working in the a variety of different mediums such as pencil, ceramic, oil paint, and print making. He is described as being ahead of his time as an artist even after his death in 1971. 
 
The Assignment: 
  
Today's Mission: 
We will begin to transfer our sketch onto our paper of the junk food still life using the image provided above. It uses our form of the week, the cube, along with its cousin the sphere through out the image. 
 
Make sure to pay close attention to the demo for the medium of the week so you can understand how the image is supposed to look so you can do the same yourself.
